Meet Mr. Met

Yep it’s true, my brother Russ is a die-hard Met fan and last night he got to experience any “New Yorkers” dream…a seat in Citi-Field or what we still call “Shea Stadium” with 90,000 other die-hard fans!

Exciting game to watch both in person and on tv…here are a few pics from our very own “Design Works Internationals” biggest Met fan! Thanks Russ for sharing!

Let’s Take it OutSide

Talk about a great week away on business reporting from the High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina on outdoor lifestyle and why we are seeing the growth  in a trend segment called “Let’s Take it Outside”.

It actually all starts with the housing market with requests both in new builds as well as remodeling where outdoor spaces are becoming the focal point for both living and entertaining! Architects as well as interior designers are blurring the lines on where the indoors ends and the outdoors begin!

Lifestyle rooms with glass retrackable accordion doors are opening up the house inviting the indoors…outdoors!  Product offerings are more creative than ever allowing consumers trend right choices for their newly expanded living space! We are seeing more consumer requests for updated outdoor furniture, rugs, kitchens, textiles and accent accessories.

Outdoor living spaces today also vary in scale and square footage because the demand for the great outdoors is at an all time high, especially among millennials. Creative outdoor spaces today include rooftop gardening, vertical gardening and all yard gardening, not just a focus on “backyard” gardening. Today we are seeing the collaboration between edible gardening and flowers mixed together in gardens scapes providing the beauty of flowers and the practicality of food!

There are 5 top trends that I see as product growth for the outdoors and I have some great images to share with you in the hopes that I can make your outdoor extension of the indoors an easy transition!

Collaborating Style with GAF

Honored to be working along side GAF on the re-launch of their GAF Style Guide on GAF.com Our focus is the lifestyle shift of “bringing the indoors, outdoors”, a trend in home design today!

Founded in 1886, GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. The company’s products include a comprehensive portfolio of steep-slope and commercial roofing systems, which are supported by an extensive national network of factory-certified contractors.

The new GAF Style Guide is a resource that helps homeowners select shingles that best match their personal style with their exterior home portfolio.

The style guide can be found at http://www.gaf.com/style.

In today’s world, we have seen a major lifestyle shift in “bringing the indoors, outdoors” so a paramount design decision like choosing the color and substrate of your roof is now being influenced by your lifestyle. Color as well as texture are factors to consider while making this important decision and I am thrilled to be working with such an innovative company as GAF.

The reality behind “bringing the indoors, outdoors” begins with our housing market because homes today are being built with a more organic vibe towards the outdoors, blending the lines of where the indoors starts and the outdoors end.  We are seeing homes built with glass partitions connecting the house to the outside.

Gardens have become multi-functional rooms allowing for comfortable, quality furniture and accessories that have been in the past only associated with interior living.

Outdoor kitchens and dinning areas have become permanent fully functioning structures that allow for all year round entertaining.

The variation of outdoor space in rear patios, interior courtyards, upper floor balconies and rooftop decks allows people to experience outdoor living no matter how small their indoor living space is.

As you can see “bringing the indoors, outdoors” is not only a trend, it’s a lifestyle that allows us to extend our time outdoors enjoying friends and family!

I am blessed to have my own business, Design Works International located in NYC for the past 27 years providing companies like GAF creative consulting through color, trend and design solutions. (Designworksstyle.com)
