So what if the human eye can detect some 10 million different colors? The ones that interest the design industry are the colors trending this year and beyond.

And who knows what they are? Meet design pro Nancy Fire. Co-founder of New York-based Design Works International/First2Print (designworksintl.com), and design director for HGTV Home, the go-to interior design source for millions of American, Nancy has logged 30+ years consulting, designing, and launching successful product lines. Also a SURTEX Advisory Council member and judge for designext 2016, the world-wide student design competition, it’s no wonder she’s been called a juggernaut of the interior design industry.

Gray: Still our favorite neutral.
Mixed substrates: metal with wood, wood with Lucite; old with new. Wood-grain patterns and photo-real woodgrains.

Color washes and watercolor florals
greens in different tonalities so they work together and look “fresh and innovative.”

Fusion Fashion 2015 – Patterns & Substrates

I was honored to be asked by one of my fashion students from Parsons to attend the yearly Fusion Fashion Show. Each year this show is organized to spotlight top up and coming fashion designers from the two most prestigious fashion schools in the country. You can go to their site and view all of the work and find out more of the show. All work shown here is property of the designer.

I found it incredibly inspiring to see all the hard work and creativity that went into the looks each of the designer’s looks. It’s interesting to see things that we talk about at Design Works in the creative minds of those who will represent design in the future…

We love print and pattern here and it is alive and well with some wonderful examples by these new designers.

High Point Market – “Dovetail”

One Company… so many different personalities… A fantastic mix of quilted leather,  mixed fabric tufting details and updated classics with old world charm!

I love seeing so many variations on chairs this market in many fabrics and shapes.

Designers were more daring in mixing styles this market especially within each chair silhouette combining raw finishes with elegant fabrics.
