A Guide to Holiday Markets in NYC

Featured

The holiday season is one of the BEST times to live in or visit NYC! Many parks around New York create holiday markets, fairs, and shops with hundreds of vendors from local shops, restaurants, boutiques, and cafes. From ice skating to eating and shopping, the options are endless at these fun festivals around the city.

The Union Square Holiday Market is located on the south side of the park, and it is the perfect place to search for unique holiday gifts while enjoying a variety of amazing food and drinks. This market also features live music, a “Warming Station” to make the cold weather more bearable, and a Kids Art Studio. We recommend stopping by NY State of Mind for trendy NYC themed apparel and accessories, Black Lamb BK for adorable shadowboxes & greeting cards, and Shaya NYC for beautiful handmade jewelry.

Another favorite is the Winter Village and Holiday Shops at Bryant Park. This holiday festival is well-known for its ice skating rink (which is free if you bring your own skates!) and a beautiful Christmas tree, which is lit on December 4. This park is also home to over 150 booths with amazing food, handmade artwork and jewelry, and even an outdoor beer garden. Min & Mon sells funky, textured and colorful handbags and keychains that everyone should check out. The “Good Vibes Station” is another essential for both New Yorkers and tourists, selling silk screened and painted prints from the artists of from EWBA (Everything Will be Amazing).

For those who can’t stand being outside in the cold, the Grand Central Holiday Fair is perfect! Enjoy forty amazing booths with handmade and unique goods within Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall. Kent Stetson Handbags is a must see- his incredible clutches and bags feature interesting and unusual images of food, animals and other objects. Tuff Kookooshka sells adorable cold weather gear such as jackets and hats for children, while Case Island Glass exhibits incredible, colorful glassware.

The Columbus Circle Holiday Market is also great due to its proximity to Central Park, as well as many other holiday attractions in the city. Be sure to stop by Jet Set Candy for New York themed jewelry and charms, the famous Strand Book Store for books and stationery. Texturables by Claudia Rosillo sells beautiful handwoven blankets and textiles made by Claudia in Uruguay. They are simple and comfortable, and would make an amazing holiday gift!

Do it for the AmsterGRAM

Featured

What a time! We spent a few days in Amsterdam last week and were floored by how much culture, beauty, and fun the city has to offer. Of course, the city has a reputation for its nightlife and lax culture, but looking beyond that, there was so much inspiration around every corner. We were having so much fun, that we barely even picked up our phone to Instagram & share our experiences with our followers… which is why we thought we would update you through this quick blog post!

Here are some of our top 5 favorite things about Amsterdam:

Vincent van Gogh Museum: The not so hidden gem of the city. We spent over 3 hours here exploring and learning all about Van Gogh’s life and artistic history.

Droog: A very cool gallery/store/coffee shop/garden. If you go to Amsterdam, check it out and have some homemade ice cream!

Trend Spotting: Around every corner, there was a new pattern, substrate, or icon to see.

SkyLounge: Rooftop Bar of the Hilton to see all the ~views~ of the city.

Canals: What the city is known for…every street a picturesque moment.

EARRINGS: Earrings can be a statement, so why not make them FUN! Pom-pom and tassel earrings are my favorite because they come in so many colors. Here are some for inspiration.

ESPADRILLES: Espadrilles are a huge trend this summer because they are cute and comfortable. They can easily change a bland outfit! Here are some of my favorites.

BANDANAS: Bandanas are inexpensive, colorful and can complete any outfit. They can be used as a headband for a bad hair day or even function as a unique belt!

What you will need

-old jeans or denim

-velcro you can cut

-scissors

Directions

Step 1: Decide if you are using denim fabric or an old pair of jeans. I went with an old pair of straight leg jeans for this.

Step 2: Cut the hem off of the pant leg of the jeans, make sure to cut close to the stitches to make sure it’s even.

Step 3: Cut the hem in half, make sure both sides are symmetrical.

Step 4: Cut a small piece of velcro and attach to the ends of the hem.

Step 5: Voilá! You’re done!
