What you will learn: 3 Fall 2017 trends you should know about!

How long it will take you to read this post: 1 minute & 37 seconds

Why you should read it: So you can be in the know… duh

3…2…1….GO!

Good morning. As Hurricane Irma is subsiding into a tropical storm and the people of Houston are beginning to recover from Harvey, we can all take a deep breath and continue in our efforts to help the people affected. With the US being hit by two record breaking hurricanes within a two week span, it is hard to talk about color, print, pattern, trend, and everything else we do everyday in the studio. Hopefully these bright, beautiful trends will make us all feel a little bit better as we let ourselves get wrapped up in something pretty, at least for a minute. That “something pretty” today will be yellow ochre!

Now that September is fully upon us and New York Fashion will week soon behind us, we can look towards the 2017 Fall trends with ease. Let us take the guess work out of what you will be seeing:

Stripes & Plaids

We are seeing stripes and plaids more and more on the streets & on the runway this fall.

Check out this take on vertical stripes from the Dior Fall 2017 collection along with a few others…

Hello Clueless! From the 90’s grunge inspired plaid blazers of NYFW to the Italian runway of Ferretti, we are seeing it more and more. Do you have any vintage left that you can pull out the the depths of your closet?

Mohair Yarn & DIY

Tactile, chunky, fuzzy, oh my!  We know people love their DIY and we keep seeing mohair yarn used to make beautiful pieces. We have never tried knitting but this makes us want to test it out! Would you?

Also, we saw this mohair-blend coat by Michael Kors and our heart skipped a beat.

Turmeric

So, food. When thinking of yellow foods, we want to shine a light on something different than bananas and lemons. Turmeric is popping up more and more as an ingredient and these turmeric date balls are anti-inflammatory, lower your risk of heart disease, help treat depression, and help to improve your brain function. Honestly, what is not to love about them?! Plus, they are beautiful, tasty, and easy to make.

What’s up with all this GREEN[ery]?!

What you will learn: What makes Soft Sage the new “Greenery” for Fall 2017

How long it will take you to read this post: 2 minutes

Why you should read it: We give you 3 ideas on how to work this trend into your own style

3…2…1….GO!

Gucci // Summer 2017

Everyone is talking green, green, Greenery! We all know it is the 2017 Pantone color of the year and it has been seen in everything from Gucci’s green pants during their Summer 2017 shows to Tesla’s contest for a homemade eco-commercial this past May.

As September rolls in, maybe you’re not feeling as electric green as “Greenery” and want to go for a more muted look with Fall fast approaching. That’s where Soft Sage is coming to the rescue.

Here are 3 ways to work this trend into your life, TODAY.

1. We all need a break. Amen! You know it. I know it. We all know it. We all love to get back to nature and disconnect from technology. As all the leaves change and the kids go back to school, we will start seeing a lot more sage tones emerge in nature. Feel more connected to the surrounding landscape by adding some of that sage color to your outfit, a throw pillow on your bed, or even bringing some Sage colored succulents into your kitchen like @studionycdesign did HERE.

Studio NYC Succulents

Studio NYC Design added these adorable sage succulents to accent their “Phases” print.

2. Clean it out! Spring cleaning doesn’t have to wait for 2018 – clean out that linen closet or organize your pots & pans. One of the best ways cleanse the accumulated clutter & negativity in your space is to burn a stick of bundled sage in your home. This is called “smudging,” a traditional Native American practice used by many healers to offer blessings, uplift, purify, and bring positivity into the space. Look into the practice HERE, you might be surprised how calm you feel in your home after you do it.

3. Ooo girl, you look pretty! Lets get a little beauty conscious, naturally, with Clary Sage essential oils. Combine a few drops with Chamomile for a stress-relieving bath, or add to shampoo & conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp. You can find the small but mighty bottle HERE

FINISHED! We hope you enjoyed our little shout about how amazing Sage can be. For more Sage inspiration, visit our Instagram @designworksinternational
