IT’S ULTRA COOL | The Pantone 2018 Color of the Year

In less than 24 hours, the design world has been thrown a loop with Pantone’s 2018 color of the year. People are calling it regal, futuristic, beautiful, bold, and even a little bit overwhelming. If you haven’t heard about it already, the shade is ULTRA VIOLET.

Late last night, House Beautiful published an article, Designers are Obsessed With Pantone’s Bold and Regal Color of the Year. Our own Nancy Fire weighed in her thoughts about the new famous color choice:

Nancy Fire, creative director of HGTV HOME, Design Works International, and Studio NYC Design, says she’s already thinking about how she can use it in her design work. “Ultra Violet works well as an accent pillow or wallpaper. The regal color plays well with grey, loden green, and many neutrals,” Fire says. “We think using this bold color as a statement, not to fill an entire room, is key if you usually stick with neutrals and safe shades.” -Nancy Fire

It’s unlike the other color trends we’ve seen lately, that’s for sure. People are calling the color provocative & thoughtful by communicating originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking.

Artfixdaily says, “Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.” Maybe a little bit of Ultra Violet is what the world needs right now?

Heimtex Happenings…Diversity among print..pattern & product!

I have been attending Hemtex (Heimtexil) the largest international textile show in Frankfurt Germany for the past 20 years. Each year the show seems to get smaller in comparison to the last both in exhibitors as well as attendees.

Most people would assume less exhibitors as well as less attendees would be a negative thing, but its actually the opposite because the people who are attending are serious buyers looking for newness in an industry that has become very homogenous over the years….but not this year!

Posting some Heimtex images for those who did not attend to get an overview of what I did see over the 4 days at the show…
