Design Works Style is built around real people, relevant experience and clear editorial responsibility. Authors are not decorative bylines. They are part of how readers understand who created a piece of work and why that person is appropriate to the subject.
Who writes for Design Works Style?
Our contributor mix can change as the publication grows. The goal is to match the person doing the work with the subject being covered.
Editorial writers
Editorial writers can cover broad topics across style, living, design, creativity and culture. They should demonstrate strong research, clear writing, sound judgment and the ability to explain ideas without unnecessary hype.
Subject-matter contributors
For specialist subjects, we may work with contributors whose professional or practical experience directly relates to the topic. Their expertise should be genuine and relevant to the specific subject.
Photographers and visual contributors
Photography contributors may create original visual work, provide technical insight or explain photographic processes from real experience.
Design and creative practitioners
Designers, makers, artists and other creative practitioners may contribute first-hand perspectives on process, materials, visual decisions and creative practice.
Editors and reviewers
Editors are responsible for publication quality. Depending on the article, editorial review can include structure, clarity, factual checking, sourcing, internal linking, visual presentation and whether the article actually serves its intended reader.
What every author profile should contain
- Real name.
- Clear description of relevant experience or expertise.
- A professional or editorial biography that is truthful and specific.
- Relevant published work on Design Works Style.
- A consistent profile photo where appropriate.
- Clear separation between the author’s experience and the publication’s editorial judgment.
What we do not do
- We do not manufacture credentials.
- We do not create fictional experts to strengthen a byline.
- We do not imply professional qualifications that a contributor does not hold.
- We do not assign specialist authority simply because someone can write about a topic.
- We do not use anonymous bylines as the default for ordinary editorial work.
How authors work with editors
Good editorial work is collaborative. A contributor may research and draft a piece, while an editor improves structure, checks claims, removes repetition, clarifies language, reviews links and ensures the final page meets Design Works Style standards.
Author pages and discoverability
Each regular contributor should have a dedicated author profile when enough work exists to make that profile useful. Author pages should help readers understand the person’s background and browse their relevant work.
Where appropriate, author profiles can use ProfilePage and Person structured data that accurately reflects visible information.
